Focused on Giving Back

Over the years of photographing families, I have realized that photography has the power to move us, has the power to tell a story, and to make a difference. I have learned that life is a gift. And I am constantly reminded of that every time my shutter clicks.

I have been thinking for a while now about how I can use my business to give back to the community and to make a difference in other people’s lives. Since I have such an important tool at my disposal, the ability to make a single moment live on forever, I want to do what I can to use it for good. My assistant is also 100% on board.

We have decided to give back by offering 6 free sessions per year to families who are currently facing adversity, or to those who have overcome it. Our mission is to capture real people and real stories of hope, and to honor the unique lives and memories of those around us facing hardships.

In addition to the photography, we are donating short documentary videos as well. Our organic films have brought to life the power of film, and how it can preserve all the little moments.

What is so beautiful about photography, is that it offers us something that can be printed into the physical world and be handed out to friends and family– stored in attics or in photo albums, passed down for generations to come. The digital format of a video, however, will not be around forever. CDs, USBs, and Hard Drives will eventually be outdated, the way VHS tapes and Floppy Disks have become. Films are for the here and now; a gift to those directly dealing with the situation. And we think that’s just as important.

With Photolanthropy, we will be able to give back through  the nominations you provide.

This is a non-profit project. We will be donating our time and all digital files to the family for no charge. All print proceeds that come from the project are donated directly to the family, to help cover medical bills or crisis expenses.

So, if you know someone who is currently facing adversity or loss, OR, if you know someone who has overcome adversity and now is an inspiration to others in their community, we encourage you to reach out to us by clicking the button below.
